What is an Air Tightness Test?

An air tightness test, commonly known as a blower door test, measures the amount of uncontrolled air leakage through gaps and cracks in the fabric of a building. By using a UKAS-calibrated fan and precise metering equipment, we pressurise and depressurise the property at pressure differences between 30 Pa and 80 Pa, and calculate a final air permeability rating in m³/m²/hr at 50 Pa — the standard required for compliance.

This process helps to ensure energy efficiency, reduce heat loss, and meet the latest Part L regulations.

When to Test:
Testing is typically carried out when the building envelope is complete, including all external doors, windows, and internal finishes.
